The Hurst College New Year Fun Show, 2026

Updated: Jan 9

On the 4th of January, 2026, the Hurst Equestrian Department added a new event to the calendar – The Hurst College New Year Fun Show held at Hascombe Farm Equestrian Centre. Despite some challenges, with temperatures dropping well below freezing the night before, the show was a huge success. With over 130 rounds jumped and almost 100 riders, it was a very busy day!

The first class was a 40cm non-competitive clear round. Riders could be led or assisted, allowing for young and inexperienced children to get a taste of the show ring. Rosettes and sweets were given to each rider who jumped clear.

Class 2 was a 40cm Ride and Run class, where the rider jumps the first half on the course on their horse before getting off and completing the course on foot. This class was one round against the clock and a lot of fun, and the running had the bonus of keeping riders warm on such a cold day! Olivier P won the class in style, finishing the course over 9 seconds faster than anyone else.  Hurst students did well in the class with Lucy OK coming 2nd and Sienna P finishing in 4th place. Willow I did a great round as well, only missing out on a rosette by one place.

Class 2, 50cm Ride and Run - Results:

  1. Olivia P – Winnie

  2. Lucy OK – Victoria

  3. Rory D – Annendale Rebus

  4. Sienna P – Rex

  5. Beatrice M – Winnie

  6. Bertie H – Hannah

Take a look at how the Ride & Run unfolded on our Instagram page:

Class 3 was a 60cm pairs class, which proved very popular with 16 pairs competing. Each team member jumped one round against the clock, with their times and faults being combined. Two hurst students made it into the lineup, Amelie P finished in 2nd place with her teammate, and Darcey G took home a 4th place rosette with her partner. A well done also goes to team Milky Way, with Willow I and Sienna P, who were just out of the placings.
