On 25th September 2025, Hickstead Showground played host to the largest-ever Hurst College Inter-Schools Team and Individual Showjumping Competition. Sponsored, hosted and organised by the Hurst Equestrian Department, the annual event welcomed 158 pupils from 33 schools across the region, with over 200 rounds of showjumping completed throughout the day.
Due to an unprecedented number of entries, the competition began an hour earlier than usual at 8:30am and ran until 6pm. Riders of all ages and abilities took part, from young children on lead rein to experienced teenagers competing in the 1m class. The atmosphere was electric, with spectators and competitors alike enjoying a full day of equestrian excellence.
Hurst pupils shone both in and out of the ring. Those not competing played vital roles in the smooth running of the event, assisting with the arena party, supporting the course builder, managing the warm-up gate, and helping team trainer Harriet Upton. Their teamwork and dedication were widely praised.

The competition itself saw Hurst riders achieve outstanding results across all four classes:
Class 1 (40–50cm): Hurst Red took first place with a flawless team score of zero. Congratulations to Elsa S, Willow I, and Penny G. Hurst Blue secured third place, with strong performances from Lucy O, Willow (on her second ride), Atticus AH, and Sienna P. Individually, Atticus and Willow placed 5th and 6th out of 53 combinations.

Class 2 (60–70cm): Hurst Blue finished 3rd out of 16 teams, with clear rounds and a fast combined time. Well done to Hettie MC, Rossanna A, Amelie P, and Rosie C. Elsa S and Annabel J also delivered impressive individual rounds, placing 7th and 8th respectively in a highly competitive field of over 70 riders.

Class 3 (80–90cm): Hurst Blue placed 5th with a zero score, thanks to Henry C, Olivia S, and Darcey G. Hurst Red narrowly missed a placing, finishing 7th with strong efforts from Annabel J, Darcey G, Amelia B, and Ella F.

Class 4 (1m): In a thrilling finale, Hurst’s team of Scarlet SH, Lyla YJ, Olivia S, and Lars D all jumped clear, securing second place behind Seaford Red. Lars also earned 6th place individually with a speedy round.

With team placings in every class and several individual accolades, the day was a resounding success both competitively and logistically. The Equestrian Department has since received glowing feedback from parents and team managers, recognising the professionalism and warmth of the event.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who contributed to making the day possible—a true team effort that showcased the spirit and talent of Hurst College.
